Are you confused?
I am. I watch the news and see state after state issue a “stay at home” order to their residents. They say the effort is necessary to flatten the curve. It certainly makes sense to me.
Being a life long Iowa resident I know we have always taken pride in our education system and the intelligence of our population. Recently I’ve begun calling that into question. Our governor keeps telling us she knows best and her data supports her position on a “stay at home” order - it’s not necessary.
This calls into question the qualifications of a person with a degree in Liberal Studies knowing more then the doctors and researchers known for their years of studying pandemics. Dr Anthony S. Fauci stated “I don’t understand: why all states are not under “stay at home” orders.”
Microsoft founder and billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates, Bill & Melinda Gate Foundation, did extensive research on the effect of pandemics worldwide - his research is based on numbers, statistics, and he has been calling for “a Nationwide Stay-at-Home Order: ‘Catastrophic’ But the Only Way to Flatten Curve.”
Why is it these leaders in their field can see something the governor cannot. I realize she has a scoring criteria but then so do the governors of states with citizens staying at home. Who is she working for? Who does she care about? What are her priorities? What happened to the intelligent leaders of Iowa?
Mayors, city council members, educators, medical experts and politicians have called on the governor to take a stand but how does she respond? “My challenge I guess to the individuals out there that think I haven’t done enough, I would ask them to go and take a look at other states and recommendations that they’ve put in their stay at home — I don’t care what you call it — I’m basing it on data,” she said.
Factual, defensive, clueless? Your call.
Today the Iowa Board of Medicine voted unanimously to recommend the Governor issue a “stay at home” order for the entire state. These are the people on the frontline. The people who have to risk their own safety and that of their families to treat those effected with COVID-19.
Count me in on those that think we need to be ordered to stay home - not just if we're sick but to help flatten the curve. We know you don’t have to be infected to transmit the virus so let’s all practice the advice we’ve been given.
Last thought, the Governor of Minnesota has closed all beaches, waterparks, wading pools and for now golf courses for the summer. Minnesota can make this decision and Iowa remains without a “stay at home order.”
BTW: It’s “stay at home order” not “shelter in place.” Shelter in place indicates there is a danger from a person with a weapon. Let’s not confuse school kids! Iowa needs a “stay at home” order.
