Reliving the past....

Today I woke to the news of an article printed in “The Atlantic” by Jeffrey Goldberg, (https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2020/09/trump-americans-who-died-at-war-are-losers-and-suckers/615997/) about the current Commander in Chief referring to those who died in war as ‘Losers and Suckers.’ This Draft Dodger in Chief has repeatedly questioned the intelligence of service members and has asked that wounded veterans be kept out of military parades.

In a 2015 interview with Chuck Todd, Meet the Press, the Draft Dodger in Chief says “Sure, I got deferments. Would you really want a president who was dumb enough to let himself get drafted?”

In1968 I was drafted and to this day have never thought of myself as “dumb enough to get drafted.”

The Vietnam Conflict claimed the lives of approximately 58,000 American troops, how many of those were "dumb enough to get drafted?” My guess is most thought they were serving their country with honor.

The Draft Dodger in Chief chose the accept 5 deferments instead of serving his country. In the 2015 interview with Chuck Todd he is quoted as saying “My doctor said I had a bump on my heel or something. I don’t know. I don’t even think he was a doctor.” I wonder how many ‘Losers and Suckers’ served in his place?

Let’s not forget during the Iowa Caucus in the run up to the 2016 Presidential Election the Draft Dodger in Chief declared Senator John McCain “he’s not a hero” and that “he likes people that weren’t captured.” Again belittling an American War Hero.

For those of you that know me know for years I chose not to talk about my military experience and have only recently started sharing stories. My days in the Army were pretty much uneventful (thankfully) but what has stuck in my mind for years is how service members were treated after serving in Vietnam. We were shunned for serving at a time when most Americans were against the conflict. The other thing that has always bothered me is being told in the early 70’s I couldn’t join the VFW because I didn’t serve during a war. (Vietnam was a conflict).

I am proud of my service to this country and display a “Veteran” notation on my Driver’s License. I have tried to thank every service member I've come in contact with for their service and find our country’s treatment of the men and women serving in the military and those that have served much better than when I served.

So today when I read an article about the Draft Dodger in Chief calling those who were drafted and served “dumb enough to get drafted” I was pissed and remain pissed!

Not that I would ever have voted for the Draft Dodger in Chief this cements my support for anyone but him! I find it hard to understand how anyone who respects our military and their service could vote for this person! The very people the Draft Dodger in Chief belittles are the individuals that have protected my right to vote against him and for that I am thankful.

Please join me in voting the Draft Dodger in Chief out!

And in closing…

In 1969 this was the theme song for the unit I served w/in Vietnam. Sadly it applies again today….
