It’s so sad. Our state has turned its back on the very people that need it most. And then they’ve chosen to take the rights of others away in the name of knowing what’s best for them or their families. I’m calling bullshit on the whole screwed up governing body.
Many who know me know little of my past and the life I’ve enjoyed. I’m an individual who was blessed with one of the greatest careers imaginable. Working with young people as they found themselves and a direction for their future. I also have a very loving and supportive family that allowed “me to be me.”
Something in my past shocks those that don’t know me well. For some reason I’m not seen as a veteran especially a Vietnam veteran. I’m from an era that served their country whether we believed in the fight or not and thought we fought for the rights of everyone - yet I recognize today those most like me don’t believe that at all.
Not sure what gives today’s so called leaders the right or entitlement to believe otherwise as I’m guessing none of them fought for those rights, yet they’ve chosen to take many of those rights away in the name of their religion or personal beliefs. I’m saddened that this is what our country/government has become.
Today, I mentioned to a cousin our parents wouldn’t recognize this place. Both our fathers (first generation Americans) were veterans of two wars and believed they fought for the constitution, freedom and the rights of all Americans. They were proud of their service and their country. My Dad believed that and taught us how lucky we were to live in America. I remember, like it was yesterday, on turning eighteen he sat me down and told me I needed to register with the Selective Service Board and that I was not a conscientious objector, and that if called upon I would serve me country regardless of my personal beliefs. Little did he know in less than fifteen months his oldest son would be taking the “Oath of Enlistment.”
I’m sharing this as a background to the theme song of my life - sadly I thought it was a song from my past and from a time so far away.
Not so!
Today the fight is in our own backyards, schools and the streets of our cities.
We need to find those willing to stand up and correct these wrongs “For What It’s Worth.”
