The stories in books often start out....“Once upon a time….” and from there you know it probably wasn’t a real story but something made up by the author. As I sit here thinking about what this day will bring I reflect on just how lucky a person I am. Today we will celebrate Mother’s Day, my sister-in-laws birthday and the gift of 30 years with a very loving and supportive wife, and the coming together of our family.
Yes, I’d call that lucky!
We have been blessed with near perfect weather in a season of crazy weather trends. Our home is a welcoming place and today close to twenty people will gather to celebrate the day with family and friends. 2511 is a source of pride and we welcome every chance we have to share it with others.
In our crazy political world the topic won’t be approached here today, just the grandkids activities, family plans for weddings and celebrations throughout the summer. The day will be highlighted with great food, drink and conversation - you know those things you remember when you were growing up. The stories will cover the span of over seventy five years and everyone will have something to share. I guess that’s the beauty of being a part of a caring family. No internal controversies. Just good ole talk. This group will bring people with different career backgrounds, interests and education levels together.
Gathered will be retailers, social media specialist, training coordinators, truck drivers, law enforcement professionals, retired military, farmers, senior managers, teachers, medical professionals and now retired members of the group. If you think about it, it represents the make up of our country. One that we are all proud of!
The kids will be in the backyard playing baseball, the gals will be talking about flowers, family and upcoming summer events and the guys will be talking shop, baseball along with a few jokes. No politics anywhere!
Today are the type of days we should all stop and reflect upon. None of us had an easy time getting here but I think it’s those life experiences are what make days like this so important to celebrate. While we gather to celebrate defined events I hope everyone takes a minute on the drive home to reflect on how lucky we all are as individuals and how lucky we are to belong to such a great family!
Happy Mother’s Day, Birthday and Anniversary!
